Session Introduction

Welcome to the session on ‘Redshift Administration’.

So far in the module, you have learnt about industry use cases and the internal architecture of Amazon Redshift. In this session, you will begin with a hands-on activity on Redshift.

In this session

You will get an understanding of how to create a Redshift cluster. You will also learn how to choose and deploy a Redshift cluster according to your use case.

In the next video, let’s see how our expert, Kamlesh, plans to teach this session.

This session will cover the following topics:

  • How to create a new Redshift cluster.
  • What are the different node types available for Redshift?
  • What is Workload Management (WLM)?
  • How to resize a Redshift cluster.
  • How to take a backup of and restore a Redshift cluster.
  • What security measures are in place for Amazon Redshift?

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Amazon Redshift is a costly service of AWS. Hence, to avoid burning up your AWS budget, please make sure to Pause your Redshift cluster during the module week (when you’re learning/practising Redshift. However, you can also choose to terminate it if there is any kind of break while you are going through the module). Make sure to terminate the cluster once you are done with the module. The steps will be shared in this session.

Please note that clicking on the Stop button in AWS Academy dashboard does not affect the Redshift cluster and therefore, the cluster has to be terminated from inside the AWS management console page.
