RA3 and AQUA

In the previous segment, you learnt about Redshift Spectrum using a lake house approach.

Now, in this segment, you will learn about the Advanced Query Accelerator (AQUA) and its impact on Redshift’s performance. Let’s watch the next video where Kamlesh will explain this in detail.

AQUA takes a new approach towards cloud data warehouse. It takes the device to storage by supplying a large portion of the data processing on-site to the innovative cache. It also utilises AWS-designed processors and a scale-out architecture to automate data processing, which traditional CPUs cannot do.

The image provided below illustrates AQUA architecture.

The key points from the video given above are summarised below:

  • With AQUA, Amazon Redshift is up to 10 times faster than other cloud-based data warehouses, with no extra cost.
  • AQUA nodes with custom AWS-Designed analytics processors conduct faster operations (compression, encryption, filtering, and aggregations) than traditional CPUs.
