Welcome to the module on ‘Amazon Redshift’.
In the previous module, you learnt about some of the important concepts of Apache Hive. You understood the architecture of Hive and learnt how to query Hive tables using HQL.
In this module, you will learn how to use an enterprise data warehousing tool called Amazon Redshift. Amazon Redshift is a data warehouse product that forms a part of the larger cloud-computing platform in Amazon Web Services (AWS). In the upcoming video, our industry expert will provide an overview of the topics that will be covered in this module.
Now let’s see how the module has been divided into the session.
Guidelines for this module
As this module covers theoretical and practical concepts, it is advised that you actively attempt the various in-segment questions throughout the module as well as practise SQL queries on your AWS Redshift cluster. Also, please read the platform text before attempting the in-segment questions. The videos in this module are presentation-based. The presentation used throughout this module is attached below. The lecture notes for the module will also be provided at the end of the last session.
Important Note: Amazon Redshift is a costly service. Hence, to avoid burning-up your monthly AWS budget, Please make sure to Pause your Redshift cluster during the module week (when you’re learning/practising Redshift. However, you can also choose to terminate it if there is any kind of break while you are going through the module). And make sure to terminate it once you are done with the module. The steps will be shared in the session-03.
Guidelines for in-segment and graded questions
There will be a separate session for graded questions. The other sessions will contain questions that will not be graded. The graded questions in this module will have 10 marks for a correct answer and 0 for an incorrect answer. Each graded question will allow only one attempt, whereas non-graded questions may allow one or two attempts depending on the question type and the number of options.
