4 Vs of Big Data

Previously, you learnt about the different types of data, i.e. structured data. both these data types constitute a small proportion (around 20%) of the total data that is generated today. the remaining significant proportion of data is known as unstructured data.

You will learn about the unstructured data and about the 4Vs of data from our industry expert.

In this video, you were introduced to the 4 Vs of big data. Usually, these 4 Vs are used to identify whether the dataset in hand is big data or not. The 4 Vs are as follows:

  • Volume: The data cannot be stored, processed, and interpreted by a single computing machine.
  • Velocity: This is the speed at which the data arrives. The system should be capable of accessing, storing, and processing this high-speed data.
  • Variety: Data can be structured, semi-structured, or unstructured. The system should be capable of handling all kinds of data.
  • Veracity: The data can either be of questionable quality or lack authenticity. It is prone to noise or bias.
